Nowadays, a social media profile is a must. What that implies is that social media profile pics are a must as well. I know that leaves some uneasy, but I see it as a double edge sword: you can meet new singles and sell yourself in the business world.
There is so much you can communicate in a profile pic. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. What does your profile pic say about you? Does it truly capture your personality? Here are some tips on how to Ace it, or in other words sell yourself better.
Smiling is the number one key to exuding warmth in a profile pic. I’m not talking about a “smile for the camera” smile. I’m talking about some real smiling here: a picture in which you’re genuinely happy, fulfilled at that moment, at that place. Happy and positive facial expressions spark interest in you.
But how do you make it seem so real? The context really helps.
Contextual pictures sell you in a far better way than “mirror selfies” or “car selfies” . They show people a part of your personality. Don’t be posing topless in the mirror or looking for an excuse to show off. Usually, you take pictures that represent your life, whether it’s your job, hobbies, your social circle, whatever. And that’s more appealing. It bumps up your value. Oh, and smiles are more natural in those kinds of pictures.
Depending on the context, style is always in line. For a more professional picture, opt for a nice tailored suit. In a more personal context, inspire yourself with stylists, magazines, trends or whatever you like that represents you well. You might also want to check out our Pinterest Boards. After all, the point here is to dress in a way you like and feel comfortable, while looking sharp at the same time.
Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.
DON’T FORGET GROOMING
It says a lot about someone and completes the style category. View it as a ‘’job interview’’: The first 30 seconds are what sells you. For a profile you have a lot less time. Are your hair and beard/shaving well done? Is your style neat and clean? You need to be like meticulous with your grooming: sharper is better.
PROJECT GOOD HEALTH
Without preaching on diets and physical training, this aspect of the picture is also important simply because it reflects your way of life on two of the basic needs of the body: food and working out. Health enhances charisma: training and eating healthy not only makes you look better, it makes you a better person in the eyes of others.
KEEP THE GOAL IN MIND
What’s your Social Media strategy (yes, you need one, whether it is business or pleasure that compels you)? Your profile is your virtual self, presented to a specific community. Whether it’s on LinkedIn, Tinder, Facebook, Twitter or your blog Gravatar, you should choose a picture that communicates the right message: professionalism, warmth, intellect, etc. People do judge books by their covers and your profile pic is the cover you display to the world. Show them what you’ve got.
